8 Powerful Prayer for Patience

Prayer for patience often seeks God’s help to be calm, trust his timing, and give others the benefit of the doubt, accepting our own mistakes and asking for help to live in love, understanding, and endurance, especially in challenging moments. God is patient and kind; hence, as his people, we ought to replicate it. However, we need prayers to help us overcome trials of temperance and impatience.

Patience: Can We Be More Patient?

We all have families, friends, colleagues, classmates, and even peers. Hence, as long as we socialize, there is bound to be conflict. Most times, these conflicts can be initiated when someone gets on your nerves, especially as everyone has a limit to what they can tolerate. Sometimes, even your mom can make remarks telling you to find a “real” job again.

It could also come from your flatmate, who is annoyingly letting the trash overflow, as always. It could be that your friend keeps getting indecisive about where you all want to go for dinner. Oftentimes, it is the culmination of the little things that causes us to get impatient when we normally wouldn’t.

You don’t need to misunderstand us; it is not easy to be patient, especially with the kinds of intolerable humans we are encountering with each passing day. Still, our Lord Jesus understands how it feels to be patient, as no one has been tested more than he was. For instance, in the book of Mark, 8:17-21, Jesus took it upon himself to feed a group of four thousand people.

However, his disciples wasted no time in questioning how he intends to go about it, even though he has recently performed a similar miracle in the feeding of the five thousand. It was very obvious what Jesus was trying to do, yet he chose to stay calm in the face of their lack of faith and understanding. He just proves it to them again. During their private time, he conversed with them about it to let them know why he was frustrated.

We cannot count how many times we have doubted God and wronged him. Yet, he has continued to prove himself to us countless times. If there should be anyone to lose their cool and patience, it’s definitely him. Still, just as Jesus has often shown us, patience is a choice, and God abounds in it.

In our everyday life, we often aspire to be more like Christ; hence, we must also be motivated to learn to react not out of impatience but self-control. If someone makes us unhappy, it is best to have the discussion with the person. To converse about our frustrations is healthy, but to treat other people unfairly because of our impatience is very wrong.

Like we said earlier, we know it is not an easy task to be patient, especially in situations where people keep hurting you without relenting. However, prayer for patience will help give you more grace to be able to overcome while also giving you the spirit of perseverance. In this article, we will be talking about some of the key prayers for patience.

8 Essential Prayers for Patience

Prayer 1: Prayer for Strength

You may have been constantly pushed to your limit that you find it hard to hold your cool any longer. It is quite understandable, as you are only human. You need to pray to God for strength to keep pushing and to avoid falling into temptation. Pray this prayer:

“Lord, today is rough. And I haven’t even climbed out of bed. There’s too much clouding my mind, too much to face, and I can already feel the meltdown brewing inside. I don’t have enough patience—with myself or anyone else—to make it through the morning, let alone the day.

Would you meet me here and give me yours? Would you lift me up and carry me out of my room? Would you walk me through my day? Thank you for never being tired or drained. Thank you for having the power to renew my patience and my strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Anchor Scripture: Isaiah 40:31

Prayer 2: Prayer to Keep Me Motivated through Crises

Say this prayer:

“Lord, I can’t move. I can’t sit still or stand. I can’t breathe. I think I’m dying. Everything’s falling apart inside me and around me. I don’t know what to do.

Please wrap your arms around me and don’t ever let go. Slow my racing heart. Clear my spinning head. Calm my frantic lungs. I need Your patience to breathe through this moment and make it to the next. Thank you for being a God of the moment, a God who cares, and a God able to guard my heart and mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Anchor Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7

Prayer 3: Prayers to Teach You to Let Go

Everyone has certain situations that can cause them to lose their cool inasmuch as they want to let go. Well! It’s a human thing and is quite understandable. However, if we must adopt Christ’s attitude, we must learn to let go, and this prayer below will help you:

“Lord, I’m stuck in a place I don’t want to be. It seems everyone else is speeding forward. It’s so hard to watch sometimes. What if my life always looks and feels this way? Things have to change. I must move on. I need something new right now.

But that’s not your way. You want me to grow when I want to run away. Soothe my anxiety. Take away my desperation. Stretch my perseverance. Thank you for knowing what’s best for me. Thank you for helping me let go and giving me the patience to wait on your timing, not mine. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Anchor Scripture: 2 Peter 3:9

Prayer 4: Prayer to Help You Love Others

Jesus Christ teaches us to love others as we love ourselves. If you learn to love, you will also learn to overlook certain things and let go. After all, love is patient. Pray this prayer:

“Lord, some of Your people are hard to love. They can be moody, mean, difficult, and impossible to understand. They blame me for things I didn’t do and have expectations I can’t meet. Sometimes I wish you hadn’t put them in my life.

I need You to show me how much You love them. Reveal what you see under the surface, where they’re hurting, and tell me how to make a difference. Thank you for giving me your patience to be kind and compassionate when I don’t have my own and for loving me when I’m the one who’s difficult in someone else’s life. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Anchor Scripture: 1 Peter 4:8

Prayer 5: Prayer to Help Guide your Steps

“Lord, I miss the way we used to be. It’s my fault, I know. I haven’t had the patience to rest at your feet and meditate on your Word. I’ve been too impatient to wait on your will. I’ve gotten used to making things happen right now instead of waiting on you to guide my steps.

Bring me back to those days when I hungered for your plans. Give me the patience to linger in your presence. Pause my racing thoughts and self-imposed time limits. Thank you for being the only one who can truly take away my urge to do life alone. Thank you for showing me that putting you first is what’s best for me. I pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”

Anchor Scripture: Psalm 143:5

Prayer 6: Prayer to Fight Pride

“Lord, it’s hard to admit, but I need to be right. I just know if I explain my way one more time with one more example, the other person will see my side. But the more I push my view, the more my words and actions destroy my relationships.

Remind me that relationships are more important than who’s right and who’s wrong. Tell me to back off when I can’t seem to pull the plug on my pride. Cover my frustration with your patience. Thank you for putting things into perspective and showing me what doesn’t really matter. Thank you for loving me when I think I know everything and you know I know nothing. Amen.”

Anchor Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Prayer 7: Prayer to Teach You to Be Like Him

“Father, in the name of Jesus. I’m human—which often makes me oblivious to what’s around me. I’m in so much of a hurry to get my own stuff done that I forget to stop and notice what’s going on with everyone else.

Nudge me when I get distracted and caught up in myself. Remind me that I need my family and friends, and they need me. Thank you for knowing we weren’t meant to walk through life alone and for giving us the opportunity to be Jesus to each other. Thank you for helping me shine for you. Amen.”

Anchor Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:27

Prayer 8: Prayer to Be Patient with My Children

“Lord, it’s horrible to admit, but some days my kids feel like the opposite of a reward. If “iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17), today’s the day I might just be whittled away. Right now, I’m hiding in the bathroom, trying and failing to reign in my overwhelming frustration.

Fill me with everlasting patience and drown my anger in your peace. Help me parent my kids the way you parent me—with kindness and love. Thank you for giving them to me. Amen.”

Anchor Scripture: Psalm 127:3

Conclusion

It is only a wise man that makes mistakes and realizes them while striving for means to avoid repetition. It is important to recognize your impatience, as it is the first step of seeking a solution, and there is no better solution than prayer. Prayer for patience will invite the Holy Spirit to guide your steps and give you the spirit of tolerance and self-control.
