Bible Verses About Confidence—Finding Strength and Courage Through Faith
Confidence is something everyone wants. We want to walk without being shy or having fear, speak with assurance, and live through life knowing who we are. Most times, life shakes that sense of certainty. We face challenges, people tend to disappoint us, and sometimes the disappointments come from us too. When all these happen, we tend to lose self-confidence, and the kind of confidence that lasts isn’t found in achievements, our level, or motivational words; rather, it’s found in God.
Real confidence isn’t arrogance or pride; it’s the belief that you are worth something great, strengthened, purposeful, and firmly rooted in your Creator. The Scriptures not only encourage us to be confident, but they also teach us to place our confidence not in ourselves, but in God’s unchanging promises.
Below are some Bible verses about confidence that remind us what real confidence is and how our daily lives can be strengthened through the faith we have in Christ our Lord.

1. What Confidence Really Means (Spiritually)
Confidence is often viewed by many as self-belief, but that’s not what true confidence is, because even the strongest among us have moments when we doubt our abilities to get things done. Godly confidence is the most important because it comes from the Creator. It has no limits or self-doubt; it assures us of knowing who God is and that He can make all things right.
Proverbs 3:26 says,
“For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”
This verse assures us that God Himself is always available as our source of stability. It’s easy to think that a lack of confidence is a sign of weakness, but that’s not true. It’s our mindset that causes or invites self-doubt and low confidence because we often rely on things that are not eternal. Human approval, achievements, and even our personal abilities, all of which can fail. But God can never and has never failed, not even once.
When our source of confidence is the Lord, seeking validation from people becomes something we no longer worry about. How we appear before others no longer matters as much because our focus shifts away from their opinions. This doesn’t mean we become rude; rather, it means we are committed to doing what is right while having a strong spiritual assurance and peace within.
Having confidence in the Lord is not the absence of fear; rather, it’s choosing to have faith and be courageous even when the obstacle is right before you. It’s like saying this: “Even if I don’t know the outcome, I know my God.”
2. Confidence in God’s Promises
God’s promise is an anchor that keeps you on track, even when the journey feels long and the road seems narrow. Knowing that God’s Word and promises will surely come to pass gives us the courage to stand firm, even in the troubled waters of life.
Here are some powerful verses that remind us to have confidence in God’s promises:
Philippians 1:6
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Reading this verse gives us the assurance that God will never forsake or abandon what He has started, and we are part of that project. Remember, He is the Beginning and the End; He always finishes what He starts. If you are at a point in life where you feel uncertain about how to keep going, know this: your story isn’t over yet. Strengthen your confidence, knowing that God’s work in your life is still unfolding, even if you don’t have the full picture or clarity right now.
Jeremiah 17:7
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.”
This verse makes it clear that having confidence in the Lord attracts and brings God’s blessings. It’s not about the level of your confidence, but how deeply rooted your trust is. When you put your trust in the Lord, competition and comparison fade away. You learn to rest, knowing with assurance that your journey is safe in God’s hands.
Hebrews 10:35–36
“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.”
This Scripture calls us to persevere and keep holding on to our faith and the confidence we have in the Lord. The season may be tough, and doubt may creep in, but the Bible reminds us to remain steadfast, knowing that we will receive the reward of our works in rich measure, just as God has promised.
Confidence in the Lord proves that your faith is alive, so hold on to it, because our God always fulfills His promises, and He has never failed anyone from the distant past until now. No, never has He.
Psalm 27:3
“Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.”
King David, the psalmist, reminds us that confidence is not the absence of trouble; rather, it’s about choosing to trust in the Lord even in times of difficulty and uncertainty. Keep your heart and eyes fixed on God, no matter the kind of battle or challenge you face, whether emotional, spiritual, physical, or otherwise. When your heart is steadfast in the Lord, confidence grows and peace follows.
3. Confidence Through Christ in Hard Times
There are moments in life when the road feels rough, and you start to feel small or less than enough. When those times come, remember this: your confidence and self-worth are not based on how you feel or on worldly things. They are rooted in your Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 3:4–5
“Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves, but our competence comes from God.”
Confidence isn’t about getting everything in perfect timing or position. It’s about connecting to the Supreme God, who is the source of strength. You’re not supposed or expected to fix it all; rather, you should put your trust in the One who can get it done.
Stop trying to prove yourself or get it done on your own. Put your whole trust in God, and you’ll see confidence become a natural part of you. Weakness turns into strength, and confidence stops being something you perform and becomes something you live.
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
This verse is more than just an encouragement; it’s a command not to fear or be dismayed. What better way to build our confidence than this? Nothing else compares. God Himself has promised to strengthen, help, and uphold us with His righteous right hand. What an amazing assurance! Hallelujah!
Romans 8:31
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
This is an assurance that God is with you and will see you through. What level of confidence do you need again, knowing that the Creator Himself assures you of His presence? This means no human, circumstance, opposition, or negative force can come close or even intimidate you because you are with the very best and greatest. Shout confidence!
With the confidence of remembering who stands with you, challenges become stepping stones to greater heights.
4. Living with Godly Confidence Every Day
Godly confidence is something you should live with daily, not just something we develop occasionally. It’s an attitude that shapes how we see things, speak, think, and act.
To live confidently in God means:
- Believing in His Word and promises, even when we face obstacles.
- Remaining steadfast in trusting Him, even when it seems the timing is delayed.
- Speaking and acting in faith, even when doubt and fear whisper.
Psalm 118:8 says,
“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
Putting our trust in God is the best thing we can do, because people and circumstances change. But the giver of life never changes and never fails. When you understand this, you stop chasing confidence because it begins to live within you.
Having confidence in God teaches humility. It brings calmness and peace, leaving no room for boastfulness and anxiety. It makes you grateful instead of fearful because you know your foundation is built on God’s Word and promises that can never fail.
Prayer for Confidence
Heavenly Father,
I thank You for always being my source of confidence and strength. I know that sometimes fear and doubt try to hold me back, but from today, I choose to put my trust in You. Teach me to see myself the way You see me too: loved, chosen, and capable. Help me to walk in faith and grow stronger in You each day.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
